Every engineer knows that uncertainties in the planning, design and study of technical systems and projects are inevitable. It is therefore essential that the methods and concepts used to evaluate the importance of uncertainty in the design and behaviour of technical systems are included in the training of every engineer. According to this position, the principles of probability (and the related fields of statistics and decision theory) provide the mathematical foundations for developing models that express uncertainty and allow the analysis of its effects on the design of technical systems.
The book is complete; for its study the reader does not need to refer to other more basic books. It is written in such a way that not only the student but also the professional engineer who is interested in learning the basics of probability theory can study it on his own.
