From the early years of life, children internalise and process their personal experiences, developing early knowledge and interests in the world around them, as well as investigative and logical thinking skills. These knowledge, interests and abilities have a significant impact on what children will learn in their formal education. Moreover, they can be nurtured and developed significantly when children are ‘introduced’ to science through appropriately designed activities.
The research field studying the education of young children in science has been growing dynamically in recent years. This volume is a collection of twenty-seven papers that reflect the relevant research trends in Greece. It aspires to contribute to the dialogue that is developing in the wider educational community on how to enhance learning experiences in the context of kindergarten and the first grades of primary school and to draw systematic and long-term strategies for the acquisition of socially useful knowledge for children’s later life.
