“…. longing for hopes only of fate”: the theology of Greek Christian funerary inscriptions (2nd-6th century)

The Greek Christian inscriptions of the 2nd-6th centuries show great variety both in their form and in their content. This book presents the categories of Greek inscriptions of this period, highlights those elements that continue the tradition of ancient Greece and emphasizes the new concepts and ideas that Christianity brought. Thus, from the simple mention of the name of the deceased and the greeting to the passer-by, we reach inscriptions full of theological meanings in anticipation of the Second Coming.
