This research concerns innovative teaching approaches to children’s literature and creative writing in early childhood education and aspires to become a reference point for contemporary educators, scholars and researchers in the field. The theoretical part outlines a review of the paths of modernity in children’s literature during the first fifteen years of the 21st century, a case study of the type of contemporary illustrated micro-narrative, and a critical reading of selected Greek and foreign characteristic works. Contributing to the scientific nature of its contents, the book presents field research on the development of preschool children’s narrative skills, as well as an investigation of the degree of comprehension and use of combined narrative elements in oral and written language through a new tool for assessing narrative skills. Finally, attempting to bridge theory and practice, a creative writing project is proposed with the learning expectation of an original production of contemporary illustrated micro-narratives. The ultimate aim of the book is to promote discussions and ferment in the field of research relevant to the field of early childhood education, to be a fruitful tool to contribute to the development of narrative skills and an innovative educational guide to literacy and creative writing practices to educate and inspire the youngest writers.
