School Pedagogy

Panagiotis D. Xochellis was a professor at the University of Munich and since 1975 he has been Professor of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Thessaloniki. His research interests and writing activities focus on teaching research, teacher education and training, and educational reform. The book deals with the subject matter of the discipline called “School Pedagogy” and is divided into three parts. The first part examines the school, as a social institution and the focus of the educational process, at the main stages of its development, as well as with regard to the reform interventions made in the post-war period in general and in our country in particular. The second part deals with the two basic functions of the school, socialization and teaching, from a theoretical and research point of view. Finally, the third part deals with the two main actors in the educational process, the teacher and the pupil, in terms of their distinct roles and their main activities in school. This publication is a useful and indispensable resource for students, prospective and practising teachers, as well as for any reader who is sensitive to issues of school education, educational reform and educational policy.
