This publication consists of two parts. In the first part, historical reviews of the basic stages of the development of teacher education are attempted, taking the Greek case as an example, and in correlation with the choices of the relevant educational policy, the observed distortions are highlighted and the basic principles for a generally effective educational policy are pointed out. In the second part, a number of critical questions and urgent demands are posed and examined, from a contemporary perspective and in a critical light, which are of general concern in the international literature and cause particular concern at the European level in the context of educational policy that is shaped through choices, decisions and directives of the European Union. This book is a useful resource for teacher candidates and practising teachers, as well as for anyone interested in the important issue of teacher education.
