The odyssey of Corporal Nikolaos Margaritoulis from Prophet Elias of Ano Volos begins in December 1913 and lasts for six years, until June 1919.
- 1913 (December): recruit in Larissa
- 1914-1916: Infantry Corporal of the 19th Infantry Regiment of the VI Division of the 4th Army Corps in Macedonia
- 1916 (September): the 4th Army Corps, in order to avoid Bulgarian captivity, asks for conditional “protection” from Germany. In order to escape from the German occupation, the German Army (B.C.) asks for a temporary exemption from the German occupation by requesting a transfer of 7,000 men from Drama to the city of Gairlich in the German Empire.
- 1916-1918: Stay as guests of the Kaiser in Gairlich (celebrations, weddings, deaths, work)
- 1918 (November): the end of World War I and the November Revolution in Germany. The end of the Second World War and the end of the war in November 1945. Anarchy.
- 1918 (December): escape from the camp and an adventurous flight from Gairlich to Greece, via Austria, Hungary and Romania.
- 1919 (January): exile in Crete to the “disciplinary battalions”
- 1919 (June): end of exile and return to Volos.
