Maria Cevik Simeonidou unravels the tangle of Politiki Cuisine with her new book “My City, My Taste, My Life”. She tries to fill a gap in the Politiki literature with testimonies of Romanians, who were engaged in Politiki Cuisine as a profession and created branded shops that continue the Politiki cuisine with great success. It refers to the Polite tradition of food and sweets, to old and new Roman restaurateurs and to historical confectioners. The life, dynamism and creativity with which they managed to impose themselves and create history and tradition, admired to this day, not only in Istanbul but also in Greece.
The book refers to the people who created these flavours that we still taste today. It took millennia for the various trends in the eating habits of the inhabitants of Constantinople to develop.
