Description
From the early years of Greek immigration to Germany, Greek children living in Bavaria had the opportunity to attend Greek schools in various Bavarian cities and towns. The Greek Schools in Bavaria in their long history provided thousands of Greek children with multifaceted opportunities for education, training and the acquisition of important skills. At the same time, they have helped their pupils to develop their mother tongue properly and to experience Greek culture in the school environment as something positive, valuable and equal to the culture of the host country. This study investigates a number of questions that refer to the former students of the Greek schools in Bavaria and indirectly to the educational work of these schools. With the help of a questionnaire, the former pupils themselves answer questions such as: where they live today, whether they have studied, what their profession is, what their family situation is, how they felt in those years when they went to a school other than the one in their neighbourhood, what their opinion is today and what their current feelings are about the schools they attended. Questions that have been discussed for years in various circles of Greeks in Germany and Greece and have been the subject of discussion at many Greek-Bavarian meetings and workshops. Questions to which we have not had answers to date that are based on reliable empirical studies.
