The interest for the writing of the historical essay entitled “The Greek anthroponyms”, was caused, initially, by the finding of the incredibly large number of authentic anthroponyms of the Greeks of antiquity, as well as the finding that until today a small number of them have been preserved and reproduced by naming them. But also the historical reason, because of which the Orthodox Church, in the 500 or so names of its annual calendar, commemorates gloriously only 64 authentic Greek human names of antiquity, while the rest of the 332 surviving and reproduced until today, rejects them and stubbornly denies their naming at baptism, as allegedly “pagan” and not Christian. For the painstaking hoarding of the list of 6,670 authentic Greek anthroponyms of antiquity, which has been incorporated into the manuscript, about ten years were spent on research, with the author’s conviction that the list has not been completed. At the same time, sufficient time has been spent on the bibliography and reference in the individual chapters of the work, the concurring and opposing opinions, relevant to the content of each chapter, of Greek and foreign authors.
