Thessaly. Greece and Europe

Under the clear title “Thessaly, Greece and Europe”, the Emeritus Professor of Pedagogy of the University of Crete, Mr. K. Kofas, presents his thoughts on the region of the centre of Greece. Mr. Kofas published the book of the same name with the aim of summarizing the data of the individual studies on Thessaly, summarizing those which, in my opinion, are of interest to the reader on two levels. One, the general reference to issues of substance and values (such as, for example, Education, Culture, Administration, History) and their specificity to the events in Thessaly. The second, a reference to more specific actions of the Thessaly regional authority in previous years, together with a travel ‘guide’ to the region. The 376-page book, with a rich bibliography, references and explanatory notes, can be read by the non-Tessalian and the Thessalian. The former gets a general picture of elements that determined, for example, the revolutionary activity in the region during the years of the Turkish rule. The second, learns new facts and remembers what he already has as facts about the history of his place. Mr. Kofas, with a rich scientific writing activity, comes from Hellenic Karditsa and his wife from Farkadona, Trikala. He feels Thessalian and seeks to pass on the pride of this origin through this book.
