November 1904. A young journalist sets out from free Athens and, overcoming all the obstacles he encounters on his way, manages to meet old man Argyros. An old man, who walks the hundred and four years and lives alone on the top of the mountain. Through his persistence he persuades him to recount to him the events of 1821, where he himself was an eyewitness and sometimes a protagonist.
The old man Argyros takes us by the hand and through his old but wise eyes, illuminates the unknown aspects of the history of his place, Halkidiki.
The “hero” of the story, Argyros, along with his family and his other companions, describes to us in a vivid way the difficulties, the deprivations, the losses, the relations with the conqueror, his agony and everything else he encounters in his life. Will he manage to see his homeland free or will future generations live to see it? Will the young journalist, under the pseudonym Philip Kleonas, manage to publish the interview in his newspaper? These and many other questions are answered in the pages of the book you hold in your hands.
