Student self-assessment in the classroom: Theory, research and examples with rubrics

The modern educational reality and the growing interest in the active role that students should play in the educational process have contributed to the creation of new considerations and practices in student assessment. A form of assessment focusing on the students themselves during which they are given the opportunity to think, reflect and evaluate their own work and its results is self-evaluation.

The purpose of this book is to inform readers about the application of self-evaluation in the classroom and its impact on students’ academic performance, through the current literature and research that has been implemented. In addition, examples of self-assessment rubrics for primary school students are proposed which can be applied in educational practice by both current and future teachers. It would be desirable that the book in hand should be a useful handbook that covers the process of student self-evaluation in a clear and scientifically sound manner.
