Chalamenion (a Pontian word meaning “ruin”, “destruction”) is a story of miracles, humanity, joy, pain and assertion. An attempt to record the history of Pontic Hellenism through the story of a family. A nostalgic dive into the mysterious world of the East, a unique journey into the magic of flavours, colours, aromas, places and people.
The grandfather of the main hero travels to the end of the 19th century to Trabzon and then to the land of his ancestors, Stavri. The experiences of this journey of self-discovery, in a fascinating world lost in the mists of time, leave an indelible mark on him.
The main character is born in a village near Samsounta and after the first carefree years, but also the exile, his rescue in an incredible way, his arrival in Greece and his marriage to a woman from Asia Minor, he returns to his birthplace, where he experiences unprecedented emotions.
The grandson of the main character visits Istanbul in 2000 to obtain the title deeds to the property he was forced to abandon in the East. Through this journey we observe the course of civic Romanism during the 20th century.
The events described, as well as the fascinating progression of the characters through time, are true.
