Description
With the book “Softball and Baseball: Technique-Tactics-Methodology of Teaching”, the authors, building on their previous work, describe the games, the rules governing them, their technique and tactics, and various other interesting facts about their teaching and coaching. This new edition is enriched on the basis of updated information, new scientific knowledge and empirical experiences. Chapter 1 provides a brief history, presents in simple terms the way the games are played and the necessary playing equipment. It also provides the terminology used in games, i.e. a brief dictionary of the terms used in games and in the description of their rules. Chapter 2 is devoted to a more detailed presentation of the rules of softball and baseball. Chapters 3 and 4 describe in detail the technique of baseball and softball respectively. Chapter 5 deals with tactics on defense and offense, as well as issues related to player selection and evaluation. Chapter 6 deals with the contents and organisation of training for the competitive aspect of the sports, while Chapter 7 discusses issues relating to the teaching of games in a PE environment in education. Chapter 8 contains the authors’ contemporary view on the opinions expressed before the “Athens 2004” Olympic Games regarding the structure and the axes that should be taken into account for the further promotion and development of games in Greece. It is the belief of the authors that this book can be a useful aid for Physical Education Teachers and coaches, so that it is possible, with simple but methodical steps and with great pleasure, to introduce students and/or their athletes to the beautiful games of softball and baseball in a pleasant way, in order to gain from the special motor activities and cognitive functions that accompany these games.
